Its All Change for Dawn in 2009 - after 2 years in the Mini Challenge, the money has simply run out. Dawn is booked for Mk2 Golf Gti Racing, keeping her race number 42. The car is run/prepared by JMS Motorsport.
The Golf Gti's run both the 16 and the 8 valve cars in a grid together - averaging 30 cars on grid. The championship has only been going for 2 years but is growing in popularity and profile. Dawn will run a bright red and white 8v and her practise times look promising to be amongst the pack.
Its not by chance the car is bright Red, its her late brothers favourite colour, and it was built in 1990 (the year he died) Dawn is racing the original 'hot hatch' and she is out to re-kindle her youth!.
History
Girl Racer Dawn Boyd from Andover has only recently taken up the challenge of circuit motor racing.
Beginning at the age of 34 by entering the Formula Woman 2006 competition she found herself good enough to be selected for the top 100 out of over 4000 entrants. Her first ever race in a Caterham 7 at Pembrey is listed in the 2008 Guiness Book of Records for 62 girls all racing for the first time. Dawn competed in a handful of races with FW before the final 16 were selected but Dawn missed out by less than 20 places.
The contacts and friends made through FW encouraged her to race in the Ford Fiesta Championship run by BRSCC. Daniels Motorsport provided the car and Dawn gained some excellent racing experience with their help. FW colleagues from Advent Motorsport invited Dawn to race with the MINI Challenge. She raced in the last 3 rounds of 2006 and booked her place in the 2007 season, in which she had varying success. Adapting her driving style to suit the Mini, she gained confidence racing against the boys.
Advent Motorsport provided the car, the mechanic and loads of support, her best result came at the final round at Brands Hatch, where she had a tough race but finished 4th. Dawn finished the 2007 season 8th in Class and 18th out of 46 overall, plus 3rd in the Ladies Cup.
2008 was meant to be a progression to success, now knowing the tracks and using the same car, Dawn was expecting to be with the front runners, but there were too many mechanical failures and incidents to keep her competitive. Finishing with similar positions but this time joint 2nd in the Ladies Cup.
