2009 BWRDC ANNUAL AWARDS PRESENTATIONS & DINNER

At the Annual BWRDC Awards Dinner held at the picturesque Nailcote Hall Resort in Warwickshire, the Lant Suite was completely transformed into a glittering high-octane arena as our Guest Speaker, the World Land Speed Record Holder, Wing Cmdr Andy Green presented Amanda Whitaker with the Embassy Trophy and title of 2009 BWRDC Champion!

The adrenaline started pumping long before the awards presentations took place, as the RAF Wing Commander began to recount his incredible supersonic drives in Thrust SSC, smashing the previous record to set the first ever Supersonic FIA World Land Speed Record of 763mph! Andy's description of handling the phenomenal power of Thrust SSC as it travelled through 600, 700 then up to the record speed in excess of 763mph as well as correcting the supersonic car to keep on course, pointing towards the line while commentating on the run, was spell binding. As our President Susan TP-Jamieson said afterwards: "Andy's talk was exceptional!"

To view just how far it veered off course and listen to Andy's commentary from the cockpit, check out You Tube-ThrustSSC-World's fastest vehicle 750+mph! It's intense.

The Wing Commander concluded his talk by describing the team's latest challenge, the 1000mph BLOODHOUND SSC– the ultimate engineering adventure to inspire the next generation of mathematicians, engineers and scientists. Andy thanked the BWRDC for supporting the programme by adding the logo to BLOODHOUND's fin and the 1K Club members amongst us and invited us all to visit the team, watch the test runs and join the engineering adventure.

What a way to start the Awards Presentations...
