Jo and her Invicta

Miss Jo Moss

Milford on Sea, Hampshire
Born 6th June 1964

My first experience on a motor racing circuit was at an 'Action Day' at Castle Combe in 1987. I had gone there for the day with the Morgan Sports Car Club and they encouraged me to try a five lap test session in my 1978 Morgan 4/4 2 seater - I loved it !

My boyfriend at the time encouraged me and suggested that I should apply for a race licence and have a go at competing in his vintage car. The car in question was a 1930 Invicta S type 4.5 litre sports and I have competed mainly in pre-war cars ever since.

I hold an International Race C licence, and although I now compete mostly in sprints and hill climbs (because it is cheaper!) I have over the years raced at both club level and also at international level – taking part in the ‘Coys International Historic Meeting’ at Silverstone on numerous occasions.

I drove my own 1932 Invicta 4.5 litre sports car in virtually every type of competitive event for about ten years, but now use my 1975 Morgan Plus 8 as a competition car – although it is a very ‘standard’ road car compared to a lot of the cars it competes against!

I am self-employed and work as a secretary/administrator for several local companies. I am also Secretary of The Invicta Car Club, which takes up most of my evenings and some of my weekends, so motor sport has taken rather a back seat for the last three or four years! However, I did manage to finish 2nd in the BWRDC Sprint Championship in 2006 – much to my delight!

My plans for the future are to continue enjoying my cars to the full!

Some of my most pleasing competitive successes over the years!
