Type of Motorsport Race – Caterham Graduates Racing Club
First year of Competition 2000
Why did you start? Always wanted to race, also dreamt of owning a Caterham. My dad saw an article for the ‘Caterham Academy’ in Autocar magazine and it just seemed perfect!
Previous Championships / Competitions Academy 2000 – 6th overall
Graduates 2001 – 9th overall
Graduates 2002 – Champion
Previous Achievements 2000: St Eval, Cornwall: Sprint – 1st event win
2001: Non championship race at Spa Francorchamps – 1st race win
2002: 4 wins, 7 further podiums, 2 poles and a fastest lap. (1st woman to win a Graduates main race and to head up a Caterham championship table, 1st ever Caterham Motorsport female champion).
Best Race / drive and why? Brands Hatch 2002. This was the final of our championship and I won the qualifying race then after a dire start, fought back up the field to take the win in the main race and claim the championship title.
Worst Race / drive and why? It has to be Castle Coombe 2001 – I had led the race for 8 of the 10 laps then a lapse in concentration dropped me backed to 5th and with only 1 lap to go, I only managed to claw back to 4th. It was my best chance to not only gain my 1st podium but to take my 1st win and I blew it! Took me another 10 races before I claimed that elusive 1st win…!
Favourite Circuit / Venue So many for different reasons – Brands is probably THE one though, since it is my local, and scene of my championship victory! But I love driving Oulton and Cadwell too, and having twice tested at Donington, but never raced there, I think that may now be in my top 5. And I suppose if I was doing a top 5, and therefore had to pick one other, it would probably be a toss up between Knockhill, Croft and Pembrey (have I left any out?!!!).
