Traditionally a male-dominated sport, in recent years women have taken massive strides towards equality in motorsport with more females than ever reaching the top echelons of the industry, both as drivers and management. To celebrate this fact, the BWRDC is promoting women in motorsport at Stand 6850 with the BWRDC GoldStars one for an Elite (junior) member and one for a Club member wishing to graduate to the next level. The legendary Sir Stirling Moss OBE will present the BWRDC GoldStars at 3pm on Saturday 16th January on the BWRDC Stand 6850, Hall 6. "What better endorsement could we ever have?" exclaimed Chairman Helen Bashford-Malkie.
Whether it's a copy of Susan TP-Jamieson's book Women in Motorsport from 1945 (free to all female MSA licence holders who register on the stand), or drool over Cat Lund's Mitsubishi Evo 3, Roz Shaw's Alfa Romeo Guilia GT Sprint, Alice Powell's Formula Renault or Zoe Wenham's OTK Alonso Kart, even sign-up for one of Victoria Pickles VIP Adrenaline events, get tips on building your own car, even friendly advise on motorsport, watch Runvisual's Virtual Presenter, or pick-up a gift of a BWRDC/Perfect Promotions key-ring, be sure to make a pit stop at the BWRDC.
As she prepared to visit Autosport International 2010 professional racing driver and international 3-Day Eventer, Liz Halliday said:
"I am really looking forward to Autosport International and helping everyone on the BWRDC stand again this year. I'm sure it will be another fantastic success, like last year; I was thrilled by the interest that was shown from male and female visitors alike. The support shown for the club and all of us as drivers was excellent, especially from famous names such as Murray Walker, Ron Dennis, Martin Brundle and many others! I think that having these leading names in motor sport show such an interest in the BWRDC really highlights the success of the club, and also the effort that is put into the display at Autosport International.
"I am honoured to again be chosen as Mentor for the BWRDC GoldStars "Club" winner, and I hope that my experience in the racing world can help to further the career of the lucky winner in 2010. I am also very thrilled that one of the greatest-ever racing drivers, Sir Stirling Moss, will present the BWRDC GoldStars on Saturday. Now that is seriously raising the bar! It is very exciting and absolutely brilliant."
While committee member and 'Racing Vogue' Editor Sarah Franklin added:
"Autosport International was great for me last year and so far this year - both in terms of the additional publicity it gives me (particularly being nominated for a GoldStar) and also for the club. We drew a lot of attention from some big names thanks to our PR officer Georgie Shaw. It made for some great articles in our magazine and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting supporters of the club, male and female, old and young. I personally think it has taken the club to another level. And, we've started with a bang already; I've interviewed Travis Drummer, Neil Primrose, for Racing Vogue, about women in Formula One, in motorsport and finally his own racing career and team which is run by BWRDC Secretary and GoldStar nominee Lorraine Gathercole and husband David. It's great to show that as well as a number of seriously quick competitors we also have some highly skilled engineers which is also being reflected in the brisk membership take-up for both competitors and technicians. Autosport International 2010 is already looking GREAT!"
