Competition Car
Ford Puma Turbo (Sprints)
Ford Puma Cup (Circuit Racing)
Why did you start?
My partner Toby decided to take up sprinting, which I thought looked like fun. I had always been into watching motorsport, but never dreamed I would be taking part myself.
I started off double entering with him in his daily driver, a turbocharged Ford Puma. Once I had done a few events I swapped over to using my own Ford Racing Puma (NA) in class A2 as I was much more comfortable with pushing hard in my daily road car.
I used this for a few years, then we decided to build a dedicated sprint car. Once again it had to be a Puma. 18 months later we finally finished it – another turbocharged puma, with more power (280bhp), 100kgs lighter, bucket seats, rear roll cage, adjustable suspension, anti-lag, traction / launch control, carbon bonnet / boot and data logging to name a few mods built to road going class regs!
Championships
In the first season with the new car I came 2nd in class twice and also fastest Qtr mile in class, my best ever season! Some consistent results led to me winning the BWRDC Sprint Championship as an associate member in 2006.
In 2008 I decided to start circuit racing, and did a few events with the 750 Motor Club in the Stock Hatch Championship until in 2010 we moved to the CSCC Tin Tops Series.
We really enjoyed racing with CSCC in 2010 and had some great opportunities, racing at Spa Francorchamps in the Spa Summer Classic, supporting the International GT's on the Brands Hatch GP circuit and to top it off a night race at Donington which was an amazing experience. I also took part in my first ever rally in 2010 making it a memorable year.
We are back racing again with the CSCC in 2011 in a new car, a Ford Puma Cup.

Spa Summer Classic in 2010
The weather had been sunny and 32 degrees, as soon as we lined up in the assembly area it turned really dark, next thing it was a monsoon with thunder and lightening!! Great...I was on A048R's [slicks] and the service crew had gone....
Off we went on the green flag lap, the circuit was like a lake and my screen started misting up, no worries, I'll stick the heated screen on, phew that works.....a slow green flag lap later we finally got back to the corner by the pit entrance, it was a split second decision do I go in and change or not? That decision was made for me as I could smell burning, I realised there was smoke coming from my dashboard!!
I came to a halt in the pits and before I knew it I was jacked in the air... I had the door open shouting FIRE, but still they carried on changing the tyres, after what seemed like ages someone came to see what I was shouting about. I pointed to the dash and the smoke, it was one of the fuses, so Keith [one of the crew] pulled it out with his fingers and dropped it in the footwell as it was so hot ( later we found it melted to the floor!)
Fire out, tyres changed, off I went to catch the back of the pack, still under the safety car, I had only lost a place or two which was great. I started to steam up again so tried the heated screen... You've guessed it, it was the fuse to the screen that had burnt out! Luckily I could just see enough to carry on and it had all cleared by the time Toby got in for his stint! We came home 2nd in our very small class of 3! My first ever event abroad and my biggest race yet with a grid of over 60 cars.
